Some twenty-nine years after it ceased production, the MG B remains as popular as ever. One of Britain's best loved sportscars, the model's handsome styling, spirited performance and balanced handling have won it a veritable army of fans. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a 'live' rear axle, disc / drum brakes and rack and pinion steering, it relied (in both 'Roadster' and 'GT' guises) on a torquey 1798cc OHV four-cylinder engine allied to four-speed manual transmission. Tough, dependable and easy to maintain, the MG B remains in many ways the ideal classic and is well served by both specialists and clubs alike.
Finished in red with black upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "excellent" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. Reportedly the subject of "an extensive bodywork refurbishment about eight years ago which included the fitting of many new panels", the Roadster is further understood to benefit from "a high quality interior with superb black leather seats piped in red". Apparently treated to "a lead free cylinder head last year", the engine is said to show "very good oil pressure". Stated to have covered "just 5,000 miles in the last fifteen years" and to have been "always dry stored and garaged", we are further informed that the Roadster has "recently been serviced and MOT tested" as a prelude to "enjoying open top motoring during the summer months". A great starter classic, this appealing MG is offered for sale with "thirteen old MOTs and various recent servicing bills".
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
