Lot details Registration No: VAS 615 Chassis No: BN1/219065 Mot Expiry: July 2004
Sir Leonard Lord was so impressed when he first saw Donald Healey's brand new Austin Atlantic 2660cc 4-cylinder engined sports at the 1952 London Motor Show that he did a deal with the Cornish rally driver, so that, before the end of the exhibition's run, the Healey 100 had been re-badged Austin-Healey 100 and Lord's newly-created British Motor Corporation would produce them.
On offer here is what is claimed originally to have been a 1954-made 100/4, which, following barn discovery after being off the road since 1972, has been in receipt of a chassis-up rebuild involving the employment of many new and restored components. A Heritage Document on file indicates that this was an original UK and therefore has always been a righthand drive car.
We understand that the owner is only parting with this sportscar, which is described as being very quick, through illness. The engine is not yet run-in apparently and the only 200 miles displayed has been clocked up since the restoration, which is claimed to have cost in excess of £20,000. Chassis and bodywork, having been fully refurbished with down to bare metal preparation preceding repainting in blue, are said to be good and the blue trimmed interior all new. The electrical equipment and instruments have been rebuilt, too, as have the 2.6 four with unleaded fuel friendly gas-flowed cylinder head and 3-speed manual transmission, the latter benefiting from having the desirable overdrive.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
