Lot 51 - 1977 Mercedes-Benz 350 SL

1977 Mercedes-Benz 350 SL

Lot details
Registration No: TAO206R
Chassis No: 10704322013254
Mot Expiry: May 2007

Perhaps it is a corollary of the model's understated yet avant garde styling but some thirty-five years on it seems hard to imagine that the R107 series SL and Jaguar E-type Series III were exact contemporaries. Both launched in 1971, they were poles apart in terms of execution and design ethos. Competing head to head in the all-important American market, the R107's refinement, build quality and engineering depth helped sound the death knell for older reactionary designs like the E-type. While, its refusal to age (either externally or internally) led to an impressive eighteen-year lifespan, early examples of the W107 are now truly collectable.
Finished in metallic gold with green MB Tex upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (interior trim, bodywork, paintwork, wheels / tyres) or "very good" (3499cc V8 engine, three-speed automatic transmission, chassis, electrical equipment) condition. A former mechanic who has serviced 'TAO 206R' since acquiring it in 1994, the seller states that it has covered some 134,269 miles from new. Further said to be "all original" save for "some resprayed paintwork (only minor) and "a new soft-top hood from a Mercedes-Benz dealer two years ago", the car is apparently "dry stored in winter" seeing "summer use only". Benefiting from a factory hard-top and alloy wheels, we are informed that this "mechanically sound" 350SL will be driven some 200 miles to Buxton. Offered entirely without reserve, it is anticipated to possess a fresh MOT certificate by the time of sale (though, potential purchasers are asked to make their own checks at the Document Office).

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until May 2007.
