Lot details Registration No: YYY387M Chassis No: DBH16917 Mot Expiry: May 2005
In 1965 all Bentley and Rolls-Royce saloons became unitary-construction four-door saloons, sold either as the Bentley T-Series or R-R Silver Shadow. Although there were no body styles individual to the Bentley badged cars, there were some variations on the standard saloon carrying both designs of radiator including a two-door saloon by James Young, and both a two-door saloon and convertible by H J Mulliner Park Ward. The latter were from 1971 renamed Corniche.
This Bentley Corniche - a right-hand drive, open two-door - left the R-R Crewe works in 1974 to be first registered 20 February of that year. With the previous owner having been a Mrs S Hume Kendall of the Tower Maritime Group, 81 Piccadilly, YYY 387M was acquired by the current owner from well known London dealers in fine automobiles, Messrs Straight 8 of Stamford Brook.
We understand from the vendor that the convertible was treated to a 1997 makeover, which included renewing the magnolia hide and hood, both of which are rated as being very good. Current condition of the body shell, above and below, is described as good with panels very good and paintwork in Ming Blue also good. Both the 6.7-litre V8 engine and three-speed automatic transmission are reportedly in good order too, as is all the electrical equipment.
The 115,000 mileage displayed when entered for this sale is believed by the entrant to be the genuine total mileage for the open Corniche from new. The latest MOT will be valid until the end of May and the tax disc on the car will not require renewing until the end of June.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
