Lot details Registration No: 168 GLE Chassis No: MA254/78299 Mot Expiry: April 2014
The Mini was a revolution on wheels. By placing the engine across the frame, Issigonis saved 80% of the floorpan area for passengers and luggage. The original rubber cone suspension was also a first, endowing the car with go kart-like handling. This early 848cc right-hand drive Cowley-built example at one stage resided on the Isle of Man, but regained its original registration '168 GLE' on its return to the mainland in 1986. It has remained in regular use and is apparently reluctantly being sold to help fund a new project. Equipped with sunroof, reverse rim wheels and detachable radiator grille, the Mini is finished in Clipper Blue allied to a Light Blue interior. The vendor grades the 'A' Series engine and integral four-speed gearbox as "excellent", the bodywork and interior trim as "good" and the paintwork as "fair". The little Morris is offered complete with history file and tax and MOT until April 2014.
