45,000 MILES FROM NEW

Launched at the 1985 Geneva Motor Show, Bentley's Turbo R was based on the chassis of the Mulsanne and powered by a modified version of the engine from the Mulsanne Turbo. However, the newcomer proved to be rather more than the sum of its parts, causing the respected American magazine Motor Trend to describe it as, `the first Bentley in decades deserving of the famous name'. The chassis changes were especially key to the model's success. This was to be an unashamedly sporting model, requiring tauter suspension than the Mulsanne. The front anti-roll bar rate was therefore increased by a whopping sixty percent and that on the rear by no less than eighty percent. Tuned dampers replaced the standard units of the Mulsanne and a Panhard rod was fitted to limit axle movement. A front air dam was added for improved aerodynamics. The 6750cc V8 engine with Garrett AiResearch turbo was retuned with Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection for increased torque. The result was a stump-pulling 487lbft - sufficient to launch the leviathan to 60 mph in under six seconds and on to a top speed of around 150 mph. Post-1992 models drove through a four-speed automatic transmission. Braking was by discs all round, ventilated at the front. The Turbo R had wider tyres than the Mulsanne, which were mounted on alloy wheels - a first for the marque. The model was available with short (3,061 mm) or long (3,161 mm) wheelbase - 4,653 short and 1,211 long wheelbase Turbo R's were produced between 1985 and 1997.

The long wheelbase Turbo R being sold was produced in 1997. The coachwork is finished in Royal Ebony Metallic Dark Grey, while the Cream Connelly leather interior is piped in Black and complemented with Black Wilton carpets piped in cream. The sports saloon's luxurious specification includes: traction control; electric heated front seats with four-position memory; air conditioning; Clifford alarm/immobiliser; headlamp washers; battery master switch; headlamp washers; car cover; quality Alpine radio/cassette with six stack autochanger; Black `flying B' Bentley badges. The standard Bentley alloy wheels are understood to be "immaculate" and shod with an "excellent" set of correct Avon Turbospeed tyres. The vendor considers 'P838 AKG' to be in "very good condition throughout with no known faults". Supplied new by Jack Barclay Ltd, London this very handsome, low mileage Bentley comes complete with original owner's manual and service booklet stamped as follows:
