Lot details Registration No: KRO 88G Chassis No: PIR3524213W Mot Expiry: May 2004
Jaguar's E Type was actually the direct successor to the legendary D Type and replaced the XK120, 140 and 150 line in March 1961. Initially, the futuristic looking E Type Series 1 monocoque had the 265bhp 3781cc 6-cylinder motor underbonnet with independent suspension an disc brakes all round. Open 2-seater roadster or fixed head coupe versions were offered, initially with headlamps faired-in to the nose, later, being set into the wings with flat glasses. Owners could enjoy 150mph performance for less than £2100 (the DB4 from rivals Aston Martin cost £3755 by comparison!).
Offered here is a Series 2 4.2-litre E Type coupe - a righthand drive 2+2 fixed head built at the Browns Lane works in Coventry in 1969 - which, judging from the comprehensive service history that comes with the car, would always appear to have been well maintained by just three owners. The current keeper claims only to have used KRO 88G in dry weather, mainly for attending local shows.
Body and maroon paintwork are currently described as being excellent and the still original beige interior very good. The 4235cc 6-cylinder engine is said to be in very good order and the 3-speed automatic transmission also good. On file are all the old MOTs and tax discs, the present ones being current until May. The 63,150 miles indicated on the odometer when entered for the sale is claimed to the genuine total mileage.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
