Lot details Registration No: DDS592L Chassis No: AM6025RA Mot Expiry: July 2007
One of the first new models to be launched following the acquisition of AML by Company Developments, the Aston Martin Vantage debuted in May 1972. Notable as the last Newport Pagnell car to carry the legendary Tadek Merak designed 3995cc DOHC straight-six engine, the Vantage was predominantly specified in triple Weber carburettor tune (325bhp, 290lbft) and could be had with a choice of five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission. An accomplished and refined 2+2 grand tourer that was reputedly capable of over 140mph, it was visually distinguished from its otherwise identical Series 2 V8 sibling by the fitment of wire wheels. Only in production for a single season, just 70 or so are thought to have been made.
Describing 'DDS 592L' as being in "excellent" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, navy blue leather interior, chassis, bodywork, silver paintwork and wheels / tyres, the vendor goes on to recall that "the car was purchased by my father from Robin Hamilton in 1979 and was used as a 'special occasion' vehicle. There was a dispute over mileage (see letters enclosed) and Aston Martin wrote to say that a new speedo head was fitted at 8,249 miles. However, the Vantage has only covered 7,500 miles since 1979 and I have MOTs dating back to 1981 which verify this. A full service was last carried out at 15,770 miles". Thought to have covered approximately 25,100 miles from new (the replacement odometer currently shows 16,850 miles), this striking Aston is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until July 2007 and historic class (free) road tax valid until March 2008.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
