Thanks to their post-war motor racing successes, by the late 1960s Maserati Grand Tourers like the Ghibli had recruited a loyal and international following. Shortly afterwards, their equally striking Indy hit the streets with 4-seater accommodation in another body beautiful created by the Italian master stylists at Vignale. With servo-assisted disc brakes retarding all four wheels, the latest monocoque construction, a 260bhp quad-cam V8 underbonnet and 5-speed gearbox, this was a thoroughly modern and potent supercar that was capable of transporting four lucky people along the Autostrada at over 150mph!
According to the vendor, the 1971-manufactured Maserati Indy offered here is an original right hand drive car. He says the 2+2 fixed head coupe is in excellent condition, too, having undergone a documented body restoration in 1992 when the interior was re-connollised. In addition, he tells us that a considerable amount of work has also carried out on the engine and gearbox. A good file documenting various work and servicing carried out going back to the mid-1980s accompanies the car, as do past MOTs to substantiate the 44,587 total mileage displayed when entered for this sale. The condition of 4136cc 8-cylinder engine and automatic transmission are described as being good with bodywork, red paint and tan interior all reportedly in good order too.
Compared to other Italian exotics from the same era, and the Ferrari competition in particular, Maseratis have been seriously undervalued in the market and therefore currently represent tremendous value for money.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
