Mot Expiry: March 2015

The Bertone-designed Khamsin 2+2 was first displayed at the Turin Salon of 1972. Of the 430 made, 71 were configured with righthand drive, of which only 23 are believed to have sold into the UK market. The Maserati offered is one of those, making it a supercar of notably rare provenance. A well-known matching numbers example, it was purchased new from the UK concessionaire by the famed hotelier Rocco Forte in July 1977. It then changed hands a few times in Britain before enjoying a spell in the USA. Having returned in 1991 it was acquired by the vendor on July 8, 1994 - a life-long Maserati enthusiast who is responsible for the Maserati Resource Centre website.

Resplendent in Rosso Fuoco (Red) matched with a Sand-coloured hide interior and Nero Alcantara dash top, 'SUL 123R' has always courted fame. It appeared in period promotional material, featured in the Osprey book 'Maserati Heritage' and starred in the 1992 Maserati edition of Top Gear. Vendor and car have been regular attendees of national and international Maserati gatherings and he has frequently selected it for trips all over Europe. And still would do but, in his own words, 'is now forced to drive a powered wheelchair', so is reluctantly offering 'a fine example of Maserati's last and finest classic V8 GT car'. During his tenure the Khamsin has been maintained regardless of cost, and the work carried out includes: a full engine overhaul; the replacement of the original radiator fans with more effective ones; the fitting of a stainless steel exhaust: overhauling of the five-speed manual gearbox; reconditioning of the steering rack; comprehensive overhaul of the front and rear suspension; retrimming with new leather to original specification; respraying of the body. This exceptional Khamsin is being sold with much history and an MOT into March 2015.
