Lot details Registration No: GSL 156 Chassis No: 887223 Mot Expiry: April 2008
Famously launched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-Type created a furore. Its combination of supercar performance, superb styling and low price tag was unrivalled. Early sportscar racing success at the hands of Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori amongst others helped cement its reputation. Built as a monocoque with a front sub-frame to cradle the engine, its combination of all-round independent suspension, disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering gave it excellent roadholding / handling capabilities. While, the marque's indomitable XK 'twin-cam' - with five Le Mans victories to its credit - supplied abundant power.
Originally an export market 1962 Jaguar E-type Series I 3.8 litre Fixed Head Coupe, this particular example has since been converted into a right-hand drive Roadster suitable for race / track day usage. According to information supplied by the vendor, 'GSL 156' "has been built around a new tub. It has all the rear end fabricated in aluminium and deseamed. The car boasts both aluminium and fibreglass bonnets (the former available for collection). When I bought it, I was told that the 4.2 litre engine contained Cosworth pistons and uprated camshafts. However, I have never verified the unit's specification and so cannot vouch for these internals. I do know that it benefits from a free flow exhaust manifold, alloy expansion tank and triple Weber carburettors. The front brakes have been upgraded to ventilated discs and are gripped by four-pot callipers. Riding on bolt-on 'Minilite' wheels, the E-type also sports a detachable hardtop, roll-over hoop and fully trimmed cockpit. I have owned the car for several years but not used it."
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until April 2008.
