For many, the cream of the TVR crop was the no-nonsense Griffith, manufactured from 1991 to 2002. It was propelled by derivatives of the ubiquitous Rover V8 engine ranging in size from 4.0 to 5.0-litres, mated to a five-speed Rover or Tremec manual gearbox. Suspension was independent all round by double wishbones and coil springs. Braking was by 10-inch ventilated discs at each corner. The most powerful version, that equipped with the TVR-developed 5-litre engine, boasted an output of 340bhp and a 350lbft of torque. This was sufficient to hurl the 2310lb two-seater to 60mph in around 4.1 seconds and on to a substantial top speed of 170mph.
The vendor acquired this 1995 Griffith 500 in 2005, when it is understood to have covered 43,000 miles. He has apparently covered a further 20,000 touring the British Isles and attending car shows without any trouble. A keen member of the TVR Club, he has maintained the car himself with specialist help as required. He currently describes the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, V8 engine and five-speed manual gearbox as all being in "good" order. Finished in Turquoise and trimmed in Black leather, the appropriately-plated 'N500 GHL' comes complete with dust cover and an MOT valid until June 2013.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
