During the nineteen eighties Bimota concentrated on production class racing such as the TT/F1 world championship. From a marketing point of view this strategy made a great deal of sense, Bimota were manufacturers of high performance road going machines aimed at the discerning rider. Virgino Ferrari won the 1987 1987 TT F1 World and Italian Championships riding YB4R 750. This machine was powered by a Yamaha FZ750 five valve per cylinder engine with a six speed gearbox. Built specifically for racing the YB4R utilised the highest quality competition components available at the time, including Marzocchi M1R fork with 41.7mm stanchions and machined legs, a Marzocchi rear shock absorber, Brembo 320mm twin front discs and a single Brembo 230mm rear disc. A road version of the YB4 followed the following year, the first Bimota road machine to be powered by a Yamaha engine.
This rolling chassis complete with bodywork is a sister frame to that ridden by Virgino Ferrari. Unused, it has resided in a main dealers storeroom for the last eighteen years.
