The original Mini was a revolution on wheels - with the engine placed across the frame and the gearbox in its sump, 80 percent of the floorpan area was available for passengers and luggage. Equally novel was the rubber cone suspension, which resulted in a somewhat choppy ride but also endowed the car with its famous go kart-like handling. During 41 years of production, the Mini was offered in numerous limited editions, of which the Mini 30 was one. Based on the popular Mini Mayfair, 3,000 Mini 30s were created in celebration of the model's three decades of production. Powered by a 998cc version of the ubiquitous A-Series engine, they were offered in either Cherry Red (2,000) or Black (1,000). Just two hundred of the total were equipped with four-speed automatic gearboxes, while all featured half leather trim with Red piping and rode on Minilite-style wheels.
'G545 TUW' is a Cherry Red example with automatic transmission that was apparently previously owned by a wife of Sir Terence Conran. The vendor now views the Mini worthy of "7/10" for its bodywork, paintwork, and engine and "8/10" for its interior trim. The odometer of this rare classic Mini currently displays an unwarranted 22,200 miles and the current MOT lasts all the way to November 2013.
