Ford's Falcon compact appeared during 1960 and, built in five plants from Ontario to Mexico and Australia, enjoyed huge sales success in two-door and four-door forms, the former available as a convertible, and even as a pick-up. Arguably the sharpest styling belongs to the second generation which appeared in the 1964 model year, as here, the year that it donated its floorpan and mechanicals to the new Lee Iaccocca-inspired Mustang. This was also the year that the Sprint package appeared, first with stiffer suspension and a 260 cu in (4.2-litre) V8 engine and later the same season with a 289 cu in (4.7-litre), coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox, whereas the lesser cars had three-speeds. An automatic did not become available until the 1965 model year. The Sprint lost sales to the new Mustang which shared the same running gear in a sportier-looking package for not much more money, but today the light and effective two-door V8 Falcon makes a perfect FIA pre-66 Touring car - as many historic racers have found to their advantage.
This particular left-hand drive example is reportedly fitted with a 'dressed' V8 engine, which the vendor states is a high-performance 302 cu in (5.0-litre) replacement unit, attractively set off by four American Racing alloy wheels shod with new BF Goodrich tyres. The two-door hardtop is further understood to benefit from a dual exhaust system with Flowmaster silencers plus "uprated suspension". The vendor describes this striking Falcon car as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
