Lot details
Registration No: AKX 1S
Chassis No: SCBZB03C2RCH52033
Mot Expiry: None

Introduced at the 1991 Geneva Salon, the Bentley Continental R was intended to evoke the glamour and sophistication of its 1950s / 1960s forebears. Styled by John Heffernan / Ken Greenley, the svelte two-door coupe was among the most exclusive and luxurious cars that money could buy. Powered by a turbocharged 6.75 litre V8 allied to 4-speed GM 4L80-E automatic transmission, the four-seater was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds and 145mph. Despite being in production from 1991-2003, just 1,290 Continental Rs were made (a corollary of their labour-intensive construction and high price tag - £178,000 at launch)

Forming part of the collection since September 2003 when it was bought from Rolls-Royce / Bentley dealer J.K. Seymour Ltd for £48,400, `AKX 1S' currently displays an unwarranted (but not inconceivable) 62,000 miles to its odometer. Treated to `C' services at an indicated 51,225 miles and 57,765 miles by marque specialist Gary Bretherton (who also carried out a pre-purchase inspection on the vendor's behalf); the latter occasion saw the Bentley receive attention to its idle control valve, thermostat, temperature transmitter and front brakes. Fitted with four new tyres at an indicated 53,269 miles and a reconditioned heater matrix in February 2006, the Continental R was last submitted for MOT testing on April 7th 2009. Dry stored in a heated garage for the past four years, `AKX 1S' started readily upon a recent inspection and ran well. However, it will require recommissioning prior to road use. Sporting a chromed radiator grille complete with mesh insert (though, the original slats have been retained should a new owner wish to reinstate them) and finished in the attractive combination of British Racing Green with Green-piped Magnolia leather upholstery, this smart Continental R is offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, assorted old MOTs and service history.
