Introduced in February 1970, the second-generation Camaro was a quantifiable improvement over its predecessor. Finished in blue with white racing stripes, this particular example - listed on its cowl tag as a desirable Z28 code car - is variously described by the vendor as being in fair (bodywork, paintwork), good (chassis, electrical equipment, wheels / tyres), very good (engine) or nearly new (gearbox) condition. Reportedly used for various American historic series events before entering the current ownership in 1998, it was nevertheless stripped and rebuilt prior to making its 1999 AMOC Anglo-American Challenge debut. Continuing to run in the middle of the Anglo-American pack the following season, the Camaro also journeyed to the States for a one-off Sebring HSR meeting. Although, somewhat sidelined by other racing commitments, the past few years have seen the coupe treated to a four-speed 'Richmond' manual gearbox (2000), fresh 4.11:1 differential (2002), replacement full-race clutch / flywheel assembly (2003) and an extensive engine rebuild (2003). Said to "produce around 440bhp with similar torque", this fearsome 5.7 litre V8 powerplant features an Accusump which boosts oil pressure on cold start-ups and through long corners. Not driven in anger since most of the work was completed, this well-equipped Chevrolet further benefits from a GM upgrade rear-disc conversion, power steering and plumbed-in fire extinguisher (plus auxiliary hand-held unit). Reputedly an "easy car to make into full FIA specification", it is potentially eligible for a host of events including those organised by the Classic Sports Car Club. Riding on 'minilite' alloys, it is offered for sale with a spare set of 'steels', original bonnet and sundry paperwork etc.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
