1969 MG C Roadster

Sold for £11,250

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: YBY349G
Chassis No: GCN12326G
Mot Expiry: March 2012

Based around the two-door monocoque bodyshell of the more humble MGB, the C was powered by a 2912cc OHV straight-six engine. Other mechanical differences included: a larger radiator, torsion-bars and telescopic dampers for the front suspension and lower geared rack and pinion steering. The C was readily distinguished from the B by its 'power bulge' bonnet and taller 15-inch wheels. While early road tests criticised the car's 'nose heavy' handling, later reports were far kinder and, with some 145bhp and 170lbft of torque on tap, the model could complete the 0-60mph dash in around 10 seconds and hit 120mph flat out. Nevertheless, it was axed in 1969 after just 4,544 Roadsters and 4,458 GTs had been made. Forty years on, that lack of period sales success only serves to make the C more collectible.

'YGY 349G' is a right-hand drive home market MGC Roadster from 1969 that is finished in traditional British Racing Green allied to a contrasting Black interior. It was apparently the subject of a restoration in 1984, including the overhaul of the engine, for which all related receipts are included in the car's history file. Further improvements carried out in February of this year are as follows: high ratio steering rack, uprated torsion bars, Superflex bushes all round, Spax dampers up front and uprated valves for the rear lever arm units - all modified by Ken Clarke Motorsport; hi-efficiency radiator and Lumenition electronic ignition. According to the vendor, the C's bodywork and engine are currently "very good" and the paintwork, trim and transmission "good". The odometer's 10,346 apparently relates to the mileage covered since the restoration - a fact supported by no less than twenty-one old MOT certificates. The venerable C is taxed and MOT'd into 2012 and 'on the button' to give pleasure to its next owner.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until March 2012.
