Lot details Registration No: T.B.A. Chassis No: 100004 Mot Expiry: None
Introduced in 1959, the MKII has long been Jaguar's best-loved saloon. Its combination of svelte good looks, strong performance and gentlemen's club interior has successfully charmed every passing generation. Based around a more sophisticated version of its MKI predecessor's monocoque it featured independent coil-and-wishbone front suspension and a leaf-sprung, 'live' rear axle. With plentiful power courtesy of the race-proven XK DOHC straight-six, all MKIIs were fitted with four-wheel disc brakes.
Finished in Cotswold Blue with dark blue leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (interior trim), "very good" (chassis, bodywork, paintwork, wheels / tyres) or "A1" (3442cc engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox) condition. Supplied new to Australia, chassis number '100004' has the distinction of being only the fourth MK2 2.4 Litre ever made (a fact reportedly confirmed by Jaguar itself). Repainted approximately fifteen years ago due to sun damage, the saloon is thought to have been upgraded with its current 3442cc engine somewhat earlier in life. Apparently still retaining its original (albeit rather hard) upholstery, the car is said to "drive superbly". Surely one of the earliest MK2s left in existence, '100004' is deserving of a very good home.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
