"A car of useful but economical size, able to carry roomy coachwork of modern style, and essentially sound in the development of its design," Autocar magazine, September 28th 1934
Launched at Olympia in 1934, the Armstrong Siddeley 17hp model was offered in numerous guises, most of which were created by the company's own in-house coachbuilders Burlington, though the chassis was also popular with such bespoke concerns as Salmons and Maltby. Power came from a six-cylinder OHV engine of 2394cc and, as usual for the marque, the unit drove through a Wilson pre-selector gearbox. Braking was by Bendix cables all round and steering by worm and nut. The model remained in production until the outbreak of WWII.
The right-hand drive 17hp Limousine on offer was manufactured in 1938. Its buff log book apparently shows Ada Charlton Ashworth of Pulton-le-Fylde as the first owner and 'DWM 626' has been in its current ownership since November 1990. Finished in Brown over Cream and trimmed in Blue leather, the Armstrong shows evidence of damp storage that has particularly affected the trim and wood facia and door cappings, but this rare car appears to be basically complete and original and ripe for restoration. It is being sold without MOT or tax and at No Reserve.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
