The Fiesta was Ford’s first ‘Super Mini’ and, having a transversely-located engine and front-wheel drive, the model marked a radical departure for Ford who, previously, had only made cars with longitudinally-mounted engines at the front driving the rear wheels. Fiestas were available with overhead camshaft, four-cylinder engines in four different capacities, 957, 1117, 1298 or 1598cc. By the time the Mk 2 replacement came out in 1989, five million Fiesta Mk1 had been made.
Offered here is a right-hand drive Fiesta L which was first driven off the end of the Ford production line in 1978 and supplied new to Polar Motors of York. Overall cosmetic and mechanical condition is claimed by the vendor to be very good with three-door hatchback body Ziebart rust-proofed when new, beige paintwork and black and white hound’s tooth check cloth trim very good, and 957cc motor, four-speed manual transmission and electrics also in very good order.
The 28,340 miles displayed when entered, most of them driven by the first of only two owners, is believed to be the vendor to be the genuine total mileage. The latest MOT certificate will be valid until the end of October.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
