Lot details Registration No: GRO 28C Chassis No: Z74D424530 Mot Expiry: April 2005
The Dagenham-made Ford Cortina was launched in 1962, though initially only with 1198 or 1498cc engine options for the nation's sales reps. Motor sports enthusiasts started taking the model seriously, though, when the 83bhp Cortina GT with disc brakes at the front started to appear to great effect and in large numbers on rallies. One of the first to star in the model was the great and late Roger Clark, who went on to become a Ford works team driver and a winner of the RAC Rally. Outright wins by Cortina-equipped rally drivers became common, the model becoming even more successful when the 105bhp Lotus twin cam powered model entered Ford dealer showrooms.
Offered here is a well presented 1965-built and righthand drive MkI Lotus Cortina; ideal for the road or as a pre-1965 Historic category eligible rally or race car. Still with its original GRO 28C period-correct registration and with 67,830 miles on odometer, the 2-door sports saloon is finished in the traditional white and green and has black interior. Current condition of the bodyshell, both above and below, is described by the vendor as being good with paint and trim also in good condition. The 1558cc 4-cylinder Lotus twin cam engine is reportedly in good order as is the 4-speed manual gearbox. The latest MOT test was successfully passed only in April so the current certificate will not need renewing until next the end of next April.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
