Lot 39 - 1974 Rolls-Royce Corniche

1974 Rolls-Royce Corniche

Sold for £11,250

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: ABV772M
Chassis No: CRH16711
Mot Expiry: Sept 2006

Introduced in 1971 and named after a region famous for its twisting roads and breathtaking scenery, the Corniche fixed head was available in both Rolls-Royce and Bentley guises. Considerably more expensive than its humbler four-door brethren, it was also more involving to drive thanks to the provision of firmer springs, thicker anti-roll bars and revised steering geometry. Conceived as a high-speed express capable of covering great distances with minimal effort, its cocooning four-seater cabin was bedecked in soft hides, plush carpets and beautifully finished wood veneers. Further enhanced by a tuned version of Crewe's staple 6750cc V8 engine mated to automatic transmission its self-levelling rear suspension and plethora of electric motors made for a singularly cosseting experience. Curtailed after eleven years, Rolls-Royce Corniche Fixed Head Coupe production is thought to have amounted to just 1,108 cars.
Finished in Willow Gold with black leather upholstery, this particular example is rated by the vendor as being in very good condition with regard to its engine, gearbox, interior trim, chassis, bodywork and wheels / tyres (though, he describes the paintwork as "good for age of car"). Said to have "been in the same ownership since 1983" and to have remained "in dry storage for most of the time", it is believed but not warranted to have covered just 55,733 miles from new. Offered for sale entirely without reserve, this rare and appealing car comes with MOT certificate valid until September 28th 2006.
