An open B is not only a highly affordable route into sportscar motoring, but thanks to a very straightforward mechanical layout is a completely practical proposition to own and, more importantly, to use and enjoy weekends or every day if required.
Originally, a rubber-bumper model, this 1974-built MGB now has the much more attractive and traditional chromed bumpers in metal. Indeed all the brightwork was renewed only last year during a professionally executed rebuild and conversion to the present state, which is described as being currently in as new condition. Bodyshell in MG red and black leather interior all said to be excellent. Both the engine, a sturdy 5 bearing crankshaft 4-cylinder B type of 1.8-litre capacity, and the 4-speed manual gearbox with the preferred overdrive are reportedly in excellent order too.
Being a mid-1970s model, the running gear is newer than many of the earlier Bs around and the later suspension improves ride and handling. The appearance is enhanced with wire spoked wheels, which, we are told, have been recently shod with a new set of tyres. The MOT was only renewed last month, while the 26,534 miles displayed on the odometer when entered is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage.
MGBs are a known commodity, which hold their value, and a chrome-bumpered B on wires in red with black leather, just like this one in fact, is the one to have.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
