Lot details Registration No: TLC 400 Chassis No: SBC124 Mot Expiry: Exempt
Originally finished in Black over Sand with Beige leather upholstery, chassis SBC124 was displayed on Rolls-Royce's stand at the 1956 Earl's Court Motor Show and supplied new by Jack Barclay Ltd to The Cape Asbestos Co of London W1. Understood to have subsequently passed through the hands of H.R. Owen Ltd, J.M. Schippers Esq. and Frank Dale & Stepsons before migrating to America, the Rolls-Royce was repatriated by Classic Automobiles Ltd of London in April 1989. Entering the current ownership a decade later, the Silver Cloud had not long had its 4.9 litre straight-six engine overhauled by marque specialist Gary Bretherton (new piston rings, big end shells and reground valves etc) but was cosmetically scruffy. As well as sundry bodywork repairs and a bare metal respray in Champagne over Sienna Red, 1999-2001 saw the Standard Steel Saloon treated to rejuvenated brightwork, re-connollised (original) leather upholstery, new carpets / lambswool over rugs, fresh boot / door seals and refinished wood veneers. While mechanically the Rolls-Royce benefited from attention to its brakes, suspension, starter, fuel pump, wiring and carburettors not to mention the addition of a stainless steel exhaust, electronic ignition and power steering. Completed circa 8,000 miles ago, much of the restoration work was carried out by Mr Bretherton who has also been responsible for the Silver Cloud's ongoing maintenance. Though, Chassis Clean thoroughly steam cleaned, rust treated, waxed and undersealed the floorpan during September 2004. Reunited with its original registration number - `TLC 400' - thanks to the vendor's efforts, chassis SBC124 has covered some 200 miles since passing its last MOT test on May 27th 2009. Kept garaged and used for variety of RREC events over the years, the Saloon started readily upon inspection but would doubtless benefit from some recommissioing prior to road use. Showing an unwarranted 41,720 miles to its odometer, this elegant Rolls-Royce is offered for sale with copy chassis cards, sundry restoration bills / invoices and tools.
