Faster, harder-edged and more driver-orientated than its R107 predecessor, the Mercedes-Benz R129-series SL was launched at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show. Brimful of cutting-edge technology, its impressively rigid two-door monocoque shell featured an integral roll over bar that deployed in less than a third of a second (if the car ever sensed an impending flip) and a fully automatic convertible roof. Known for its sure-footed handling, the R129 utilised all-round independent suspension, ABS brakes and power assisted steering. Propelled by a variety of six- and eight-cylinder engines all allied to automatic transmission, it was the sportscar of choice for many contemporary F1 drivers.
One of the all time great touring cars the SL is quite simply one of the few icons because it can turn its hand to any situation, road condition or type of driver. It was the motor dealers car of choice for their wives, and/or girlfriends, because of its legendary low depreciation curve and of course at the touch of a button it could be transformed from a fast and surefooted 'autobarnstormer' to a Rodeo Drive 'drive slowly by with style' mobile by removing the electric hood.
We are pleased to offer today this truly excellent example which dates from 1996 and is the face-lift, or newer, model with the side vents. Finished in Azurite Blue it has the mushroom leather interior trim and the 2799cc six-cylinder engine mated to the automatic four-speed transmission. The specification of these sensational cars was always immense but few come along with as impressive a list of extras as this example. For clarification some of the driver 'aids' included are: power assisted steering, ABS braking, air conditioning, a factory hardtop, electric windows, electric hood, electric roll bar, electric mirrors, electric seats and head restraints, a full matching leather rear child's seat, wind deflector, central locking with a remote alarm, Mercedes-Benz over-rugs and air bags.
The owner describes it as being in lovely condition throughout and the soft-top is in excellent order with a completely clear rear window. It was recently serviced some 2000 miles ago with new brake pads fitted and it has completed a mere 76000 miles in total from new and is backed up with a full service history. It has a current MOT certificate until December this year.
Just wonderful.

PLEASE NOTE: The vendor has informed us that this vehicle does not come with a spae wheel, but has crusie control and air con with climate control.
