Never renowned for pandering to short lived market 'whims', Volvo have always produced designs majoring on the strengths of safety and durability demanded in the arduous conditions of the Swedish home market. Designed to last through a long production run with continuous refinement throughout, Volvo designs are usually instantly recognisable. One such model was the 700-Series, launched as the 760 GLE in late 1982 and intended to take over gradually from the long running 200-Series which itself had started life as the 144 in 1966 (although 240 production did not actually cease until 1993, kept alive Volvo said by continuing strong demand from the UK market!). With its abruptly angled rear window and boxy front end, the design was heavily influenced by the US market which was so important to Volvo and instantly recognisable against contemporary European and Japanese competition. Developed into a full range of models with the four-cylinder 740 arriving in late 1984 and the all important Estate so beloved of antique dealers one year later, the 700-Series was a strong seller in the UK throughout the 1980s.

As part of the process of continual refinement, in October 1990 the 700-Series was replaced (gradually again!) by the 900-Series. Featuring new smoothed out front and rear end styling, the most important change had taken place under the skin where the outmoded live axle rear suspension had been replaced by a fully independent set up on late model 760s. Also featuring a new and rather feisty 2922cc 24v engine developing 204 bhp in the top model, the 960 24v was something of a wolf in sheep's clothing quite at odds with its restrained styling and rose to become the best selling executive saloon in the UK in 1992. Produced in strictly limited numbers was a Limousine version which was officially marketed in the UK in right hand drive form and it is one of these rare 960 24v Limousines that we offer for sale today.

Finished in black with a grey leather interior, this 1993 one owner example has covered a guaranteed correct 93,570 miles at the time of cataloguing and has a valid MOT until October 2007. Featuring a division and conference seating to the extended rear compartment, we are told that the car is in 'very good' condition throughout and 'drives spot on'.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.

You can collect your new pride and joy from our venue until 1pm the day following the sale or our partners are on hand to help arrange safe transportation:
