Lot details Registration No: GXJ281E Chassis No: 121205 Mot Expiry: Dec 2004
We understand from the chassis number declared that this 1967-built Mk2 righthand drive Jaguar saloon was a 2.4-litre model - although, subsequently, it has been uprated with a more powerful 3.4-litre 6-cylinder engine.
It was in 1956 that the Midland firm brought out a brand new generation of smaller sporting saloon, no longer with chassis and separate body, but employing unitary-construction bodyshell. The first model in the new range was fitted with a 2.4-litre 6-cylinder engine based on the legendary XK motor, which powered both the celebrated XK120 of 1948-1955 and the newly launched XK140 replacement, though with shorter stroke. A year later, in 1957, the 2.4 MkI saloon was joined by a 3.4-litre powered version and, from 1959, the restyled Mk2 with much thinner pillars and greater glass area came to market.
Presented today on the desirable and attractive wire wheels, this Coventry-built car's bodyshell with those much more user-friendly A, B and C-posts is said to be in very good condition, the paintwork in Old English White excellent, the freshly renewed red leather interior still as new and the dashboard wood excellent. The engine is reportedly running well, the electrics working correctly, the automatic transmission said to be in very good order and the shock absorbers recently replaced. Returning to the UK from a spell in Germany, the car comes with export certificate, V5 copy as well as current tax-exempt disc and MOT pass certificate.
