Lot details Registration No: USY 265 Chassis No: B424EY Mot Expiry: T.B.A.
Purchased by noted businessman, car enthusiast and jazz fan Wilson G. McConnell Esq. of Montreal, Canada on May 2nd 1949 for £2,595 and supplied with a special rear number plate assembly and export bumpers, chassis B424EY remained in his family until 1988 when it was sold to fellow Montreal resident Alex Barber Esq. Entrusted to Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd of Quebec for a thorough $15,320 engine overhaul during 1982, the MKVI had covered just 2,174 post-refurbishment miles by the time L. Bell Esq. of Gloucestershire bought it from Mr Barber in 1996 (interestingly, the current odometer reading indicates that just 10,000 miles have been accrued since the work was completed). Driven to Heidelberg and back (1,390 miles) and maintained by John Hollis Motor Engineers before entering the current (second UK) ownership ten years ago, the saloon pleasingly retains much of its original brown/tan leather upholstery. Believed but not warranted to have covered some 72,000 miles from new (Mr David McConnell apparently stating that the speedometer was replaced at circa 40,000 miles), the Bentley is rumoured to possess a higher than standard rear axle ratio. Sparingly used by the vendor but benefiting from attention to its carburettors and brakes in March 2011, `USY 265' is offered for sale with its original handbook, copy chassis card details, sundry invoices (T&G Auto Spares Ltd, Healey Bros etc), tool kit and fresh MOT certificate.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
