The Cortina MkV was announced on 24 August 1979. Largely an updated MkIV, prices started at £3,475 for a basic 1.3-litre engine model. Differentiating itself from the Mark IV through revised headlights with larger turn indicators incorporated (visible from the side now), a more aerodynamically efficient slatted wider grille, flattened roof, larger glass area, slimmer C-pillars, larger slatted tail lights (for saloons) and upgraded trim. The styling upgrades were done primarily to bring the Cortina into line with Ford's current design language seen on the Fiesta MkI, Capri MkIII and the forthcoming Escort MkIII. Various "special editions" were announced, including the Carousel.
This Carousel saloon was produced in 1981 and first UK registered in August that year. Finished in one of the Carousel colour schemes of Grey over Silver, with Grey cloth interior, it has recently been subject to a respray following some body restoration including a new front wing and valance. Further recent works include front suspension shot blasting and powder coating, polybushes all round, and new shocks and coil springs both front and rear. With only one former keeper with the last keeper change to when only 18 months old in January 1983, it only has 74,600 miles from new, and is therefore a very rare survivor of the Carousel special editions. It is supplied with a substantial collection of past invoices and some past MOTs.
