Currently enjoying its 72nd birthday, the much-loved Volkswagen Type 2 has long since acquired cult status courtesy of such celebrity owners as Jamie Oliver, Martin Clunes, Roger Daltry and Jenson Button. It's been home to generations of traveling Australians, helped hippies survive the 1960’s/'70’s and has been the transport of choice for many a surfer. The original split screen T1 was launched in 1949 and powered by a 1131cc engine producing just 24bhp, however by the end of the 1970’s there was a range of units up to 2-litre available.
This Type 2 (T2) was manufactured in Brazil in 1973 and is fitted with the 1.9-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with a manual transmission. The Volkswagen is finished in dark purple and yellow paintwork and is offered as a restoration project. Imported into the UK in 2017 from Ghana and still displaying its Ghanaian registration number on the rear, the VW is accompanied by a NOVA certificate. The vendor informs that when the Volkswagen landed in the United Kingdom it was in running condition although has not been started since, and otherwise is in the condition that it was imported in.
