In continuous production since 1964, the Mustang is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate. Currently in its sixth generation, it is the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate. The namesake of the "pony car" automobile segment, the Mustang was developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing model lines, initially distinguished by "long hood, short deck" proportions.

Originally predicted to sell 100,000 vehicles yearly, the 1965 Mustang became the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964 over 400,000 units were sold in its first year; the one-millionth Mustang was sold within two years of its launch.

The 1969 model year restyle "added more heft to the body" with body length extended by 3.8 inches (97 mm) (the wheelbase remaining at 108 inches), width increased by almost half an inch, and the car was longer than previous models and sported convex rather than concave side panels.

1970 model year saw the previous 351W V8 engine options replaced with a new 351 cu in (5.8 L) Cleveland (351C) V8 in either 2V (2-venturi carburetor) or 4V (4-venturi carburetor) versions. Though some early 1970 mustangs that were built in 1969, had the 351W. The 351C 4V (M code) engine featured 11.0:1 compression and produced 300 bhp (224 kW; 304 PS) at 5400 rpm. This new performance engine incorporated elements learned from the Ford 385 series engine and the Boss 302, particularly the poly-angle combustion chambers with canted valves and the thin-wall casting technology.

ALY 74H was manufactured in 1970 and is a very rare right hand drive convertible thought to be converted from new for the Australian market. This particular example, presented in Ford Laser Red with a complementing tan and red leather interior and hosting the desirable 351 Cleveland 4V, was subject to documented restoration over a 14 year period, being finished in April of 2018 and displays 69,690 miles on the odometer.

ALY 74H was purchased by its current owner in Sept 2002 as a restoration project originally destined for Australia. At the time finished in gold, the vehicle had reportedly also spent time in Hong Kong over its lifetime. Over the next 14 years, he would embark on a journey restoring the vehicle to his preferred specification.

The restoration process included a number of replacement panels, including the twin skin scuttle panel, front wings, valance, bonnet and both floor pans; inner sills with inner strength supports, front torque boxes and the seat support panel; door skills, rear quarter panels and drop off panels, rear outer tubs and finally the rear tail light panel and valance.

After preparation on a rotisserie, ALY 74H was subject to full paint in Ford Laser Red with complementary ghost stripe. The original Ginger vinyl interior was supplemented with replacement door panels and retrimmed seats in tan and red leather, with a replacement tan carpet and tan over-mats. In addition, carpets were manufactured for the boot and space-saver spare

After deciding the black hood he had made didn’t suit the car, he commissioned a matching red Mohair hood with glass rear window, which was fitted and the hydraulic lifting gear overhauled. A roof over is also included for when the roof is down, as well as a rear wind deflector. All chrome trim was replaced and the car now sits on 17’’ American Racing wheels with Goodyear tyres that have covered less than 200 miles.

Under the bonnet. ALY 74H hosts the 351 Cleveland with desirable quench heads. During restoration, this was overhauled with replacement bearings, rings, oil pump, timing gear, lifters, and the heads given reinforced seats and new valves to run on unleaded fuel. A replacement Edelbrock inlet manifold with Holley 4-barrel carburettor was fitted, with a replacement electronic ignition distributor, alloy Ford racing rocker covers, water pump, oil cooler and hoses, as well as a replacement alloy radiator. The C4 Auto gearbox was flushed and replacement filters fitted, before a stainless steel maniflow exhaust system was installed for good measure.

In addition to the restoration, the vehicle was fitted with power steering and disc brakes to increase both driving pleasure and safety. ALY 74H also comes accompanied with photographic history of the restoration and a number of original parts to replace the aftermarket parts if the new owner wishes to do so.
