After a lengthy gestation period, the now ubiquitous Porsche 911 entered production in 1964. From the outset the impressive specification included rack and pinion steering and both torsion bar suspension and disc brakes all round. It was powered by a dry-sump, air-cooled, 2-litre, flat-six engine which was overhung at the rear and allied to a five-speed manual transmission. Power output was restricted to 130bhp, though with an all-up weight of just 1,080kg this was sufficient to provide the newcomer with a top speed of over 130mph and a 0-60mph time of just 8.5 seconds. During 1968, the wheelbase was increased by 57mm, and the rear overhang reduced by the same amount. At the same time, some 22lb was saved from the engine crankcase.
A UK specification right-hand drive model, the 911E being offered was manufactured in November 1968. Originally Tangerine in colour, it was apparently stolen and recovered in 2004, which sparked off a full strip and extensive refurbishment programme by marque specialists Welsh Porsche, during which the body colour was changed to Silver. The vendor now considers the bodywork, paintwork, Black leather interior, engine and manual gearbox to all be in "good" order and is selling '3867 FN' complete with references for all the work carried out and a fresh MOT.
