Montesa had been established during 1945 by Sr Pedro Permanyer-Puigjaner with Francisco X.Bulto' Marques as technical director and a major shareholder. Both believed that as the Spanish economy recovered from the ravages of the civil war following the delay caused by the 2nd World War the need for economical personal transport would increase and that the motorcycle was best suited to address this. Consequently early production concentrated on the development of lightweight machines, with competition in all its forms being used to test and improve the machines. 1958 saw Francisco Bulto leave, following the decision to close the competition department due to the difficult economic climate, however, by 1962 the company had moved into a new factory and was once again competing with machines derived from the newly introduced Impala.
The machine offered is an example of the rare 150cc Commando featuring plunger rear suspension, a model that pre dated the Impala and helped establish the marque's sporting credentials in its domestic market. It was restored to a very high standard during 2005.
