1996 Mercedes-Benz CL 600

Lot details
Registration No: N969RGB
Chassis No: WDB1400762A279990
Mot Expiry: July 2012

The W140 Series of luxury Mercedes-Benz motorcars was its flagship range of the period. Short and long wheelbase four-door Saloons were available at its introduction in 1991, while the two-door Coupe followed a year later. Production had been delayed by the development of the new V12 engine and a whole range of technical innovations, including: double paned, soundproof window glass; electrically-operated exterior mirrors; power-assisted closure for the doors and boot; variable weight steering to assist parking; safety electric windows that automatically lowered on encountering resistance; a rear parking aid, and a climate control system that could be programmed to continue operating up to twenty minutes after the engine had been switched off. On the passive safety front, the car was equipped with ASR (Acceleration Slip Regulation) and, later in production, there was the option of Mercedes' own Electronic Stability Control system. The all new V12 engine gave 408bhp at the car's introduction, but was later slightly detuned to 389bhp in order to meet the emission controls of the time. The torque was similarly reduced from 428lbft to 420lbft.

The CL600 Coupe on offer is a right-hand drive example built in 1996. The coachwork is finished in a Metallic Dark Blue, while the interior is trimmed in a mix of Light/Dark grey leather. `N969 RGB' has had three keepers to date, the current one having acquired the car at our July sale last year. He considers the bodywork to be "pristine" and the paintwork, interior trim, engine and gearbox to be "excellent". The Mercedes comes with Mercedes dealer service history and a fresh MOT. The W140 Series is claimed to have cost Mercedes over $1 billion to develop and was an astonishingly well engineered car. Used examples therefore tend to represent amazing value for money in today's market.

PLEASE NOTE: The MOT on this vehicle expires on 23 June 2011.
