Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, fully independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack and pinion steering, and driveline of that Saloon. The powerplant, however, was an all-new 3-litre OHC V8, fed by twin Zenith Stromberg carburettors. The newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970. However, once in the hands of customers there were quibbles over build quality and engine maladies. Though Triumph failed to fully resolve the issues, independent specialists have, and well sorted Stags are now the rival to the Mercedes-Benz SL they were always intended to be.

This right-hand drive Stag left the production line in 1971 and is finished in White complemented by a Black interior. It is equipped with the optional automatic transmission and was apparently restored some four-five years ago and has only travelled 200 miles since. Within the last two years, it has been treated to a set of new original- style alloy wheels and Michelin MXV tyres, as well as a hood and twin stainless steel exhaust. The vendor now regards the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, engine and gearbox as "very good". 'MVL 845J' is MOT'd until March next year.
