Lot details Registration No: WUL 3G Chassis No: DB6/4028/R Mot Expiry: April 2014
This example of Aston Martin's iconic DB6 was first registered on 23rd May 1969 and has been in the current enthusiast ownership since being purchased as an every day car in 1977. With the passage of time, and due to its increasing value, the four-seater has naturally been used more sparingly over recent years, being entered in a number of concours events which included winner of the Eden Little Memorial Trophy and Prix d'Honneur at the 1985 Brighton and Hove Motor Club concours d'elegance and 1st Prize in the non-Jaguar class at the 2007 JEC event on the Isle of Wight. Exercised regularly, it remains 'on the button' and ready to go.
Finished in the rare and eye-catching combination of Bahama Yellow with black interior, it is believed to be the only Mk1 Vantage to have been painted in this hue. Having been treated to a bare metal respray approximately eight years ago, the paint is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition and he informs us the Aston Martin has not seen rain for at least twenty years. An engineer by profession, he has carried out a great deal of routine work on the DB6 during his lengthy period of ownership, ensuring it has always been treated to regular maintenance. Indeed, when first purchased he had the factory carry out an inspection for the princely sum of £22.00 after which they reported it to have been "obviously well looked after". A copy of their findings remains in the car's history file. Much early work was carried out by well known Aston racer and works racing mechanic Ian Moss including a new clutch, valves and springs and steering rack. Further maintenance was carried out by AMOC area 16 representative Tony Parsons in his Sussex garage and WUL 3G was treated to new carburettors in 2003.
In 2005 chassis DB6/4028/R was dispatched to Aston Martin specialists Trinity Engineering for an extensive list of works to be carried out which included: resetting the valve timing and the timing chain tension, stripping and cleaning of the carburettors, replacement of the fuel filter, new cooling system hoses, replacement starter motor, replacement of the gearbox mountings, clutch slave cylinder overhaul, new front wheel bearings, shortening of the front suspension road springs together with the fitment of Trinity Engineering's conversion to telescopic Koni shock absorbers on the rear suspension. At the same time, a brake overhaul was carried out. We understand that since completion of the work the car has only covered approximately 1,800 miles. A copy of the detailed invoice amounting to £16,224.38 listing all work completed by Trinity Engineering accompanies the car.
Now described as being in "good" condition throughout by the vendor, an AMOC member for 36 years, 'WUL 3G' currently displays 87,972 miles and is offered with aforementioned letters and invoices, assorted old MoT certificates, instruction book, a copy of 'Aston Martin: A Complete Illustrated History Of The Marque', Swansea V5 document and current MoT to April 2014. With just three owners from new and its desirable factory Vantage specification, this matching numbers DB6 is sure to provide its next lucky custodian with some exciting and extremely stylish motoring.
