The Leyland Tiger was a heavyweight half-cab single-decker bus and coach chassis built by Leyland Motors between 1927 and 1968, except during the period of World War II. The 1945 Tiger PS1 was an entirely new design from the previous Tiger TS series, featuring a new E181 7.4-litre six-cylinder engine with push-rod valve operation and a brand new four-speed ‘crash-box’.

‘AHL 694’ was bodied by Barnaby coach-working and completed in February 1947. One of only four PS1’s bodied by the company, only half of those numbers still believed to survive today. Bodied with the 35F (35 seat front entrance) half-cab configuration, the bus has retained its original registration ‘AHL 694’. Supplied new to J. Bullocks & Sons Ltd of Featherstone, Yorkshire, the bus was then passed to West Riding Transport in a 1950’s takeover of the company, staying in active service until sometime in the 1970s. The Leyland is displayed today in the attractive green, cream, and red piping colour scheme of its first active service with Bullocks.

The Tiger entered preservation in 1999 being rebuilt and restored during the early 2000s with much of the frame restored or replaced, attention to the running gear, rewiring, and interior retrimming. It subsequently entered the ownership before the vendor, with the bus becoming a tour operator at Greenway House, the home of author Agatha Christie. Regularly completing the tour route from Torquay to Dartmouth there are photographs readily present on the internet of the bus during this period.

Subject to an engine-out rebuild which included fitting a ‘new-old-stock’ cylinder head and benefiting from numerous new parts in circa 2014. Entering current ownership in 2018 the Leyland has since been provided with new track rod ends, clutch plate, two new front tyres, and tyre tubes in all corners, as well as serviced and restored brakes and rear suspension. The front suspension, steering box, and gear change lever box have additionally received services, and removal of the radiator and flushing was provided to the radiator and engine, with the radiator surround restored. Furthermore, frame remediation work has also been completed with seasoned Ash around the emergency exit door area.

Offered with a large history file which includes current UK V5C, DVSA Public Service Vehicle Operators Disc (which showed the ability for public service until expiry in February 2020), an original service manual and spare parts books, a collection of invoices, and some assorted test certificates. Additionally, the PS1 is provided with assorted spares including the old clutch plate, radiator parts, and some further spares.
