Thought to have been supplied new in America, chassis TS60078 has the number 0060078 stamped into its bulkhead. Understood to have had two UK keepers since being road registered as ‘675 UXK’ by the DVLA on 27th May 2005, the Triumph has self-evidently undergone a degree of past restoration work. Presenting as an older refurbishment with Red vinyl upholstery and Black weather gear (hood, tonneau cover and sidescreens), the two-seater started readily upon inspection and is said by the vendor to be ‘a good driving car’. Treated to a steering and suspension overhaul during September 2011, accompanying invoices document the fitting of new springs all round, new front shock absorbers, a steering conversion kit and sundry brake and wiring work etc. The present rack and pinion set-up being more positive than its steering box predecessor. Other upgrades include an alternator and Firestone F-560 radial tyres. Great fun to drive, the ‘sidescreen TRs’ have long enjoyed a keen following among enthusiasts.
Model Background:
Final evolution of the Triumph TR2/TR3 sportscar line (save for the American market TR3B), the TR3A was introduced in September 1957. Great fun to drive, its tough boxed section chassis featured independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a leaf sprung 'live' rear axle and disc / drum brakes. Fitted with a 1991cc four-cylinder OHV unit developing some 104bhp and 117lbft of torque, it was reputedly capable of 110mph. A great sales success on both sides of the Atlantic, the model provided a rather more visceral alternative to its MG and Jaguar competition.
