Registration No: 103 RKX
Chassis No: 26526
Mot Expiry: March 2013

The elegant four-seater Alvis TD21 was launched in late 1958 and owes its stylistic origins to a special-order Hermann Graber Coupe variant of the TC21/100. Suitably reinterpreted for production by Park Ward, the TD21's sleek two-door metal coachwork incorporated more interior and luggage space than the preceding model. Based around a rigid, cross-braced box-section chassis equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension and a leaf-sprung back axle, the new model was powered by a 2993cc OHV straight-six engine for which an improved 12-port cylinder head was phased in soon after full production commenced. There was the choice of four-speed manual or Borg Warner three-speed automatic transmission. Initially offered as an option, Lockheed servo-assisted front disc brakes soon became standard fare, while drum units were employed at the rear. Steering was by a Burman recirculating ball system. The model could be had as either a Saloon or Drophead Coupe. The interior was typical of luxury British motorcars of the period, featuring leather upholstery, pile carpets and polished wood fascia. A manual gearbox TD21 tested by Motor magazine in 1960 achieved the 0-60mph dash in 13.5 seconds and recorded a top speed of 103 mph. The overall fuel consumption was 17.1 mpg. The Saloon derivative accounted for most of the TD21's 1,070 sales.

Entering the previous ownership via the December 1997 Brooks Olympia auction, this particular example was purchased on the understanding that it had benefited from some DEM56,000 (approximately £19,300) worth of restoration work by the German firm Bornemann during 1995/1996. Unfortunately, the associated bills and photos were never forthcoming. Treated to a re-varnished facia, general re-trim and some scuttle panel repairs whilst in the vendor's care, the Alvis is described by him as being in "very good" condition with regard to its bodywork, paintwork, engine and manual gearbox. Riding on wire wheels, this handsome Drophead Coupe is offered for sale with valid MOT certificate.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
