Lot 3 - 1935 Alvis Speed 25 Engined Special

1935 Alvis Speed 25 Engined Special

Sold for £45,000

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: AKV 741
Chassis No: 12642
Mot Expiry: None

By combining one of the Coventry marque's most powerful prewar engines with one of its lighter chassis designs, this Alvis Special promises performance aplenty. Built around 1990 (or so the accompanying photographs would suggest) on what appears to be a Firebird chassis, it is equipped with semi-elliptic leaf sprung axles at both ends and four-wheel drum brakes. Supported with the help of a reinforced crossmember and special cradle respectively, its 3½ litre ohv straight-six powerplant and four-speed all-synchromesh manual gearbox - both Speed 25 derived - have been neatly shoe-horned into place. Formed over a delicate tubular metal framework, its aluminium bodywork incorporates a luggage locker behind the two bucket seats. While, other useful touring features include a recessed floor section below the pedals (to accommodate taller drivers), scuttle vents and the combination of twin aero screens with a full width windscreen. Upgraded in the interests of longevity / usability with a Kenlowe electric fan, Serck oil cooler and full-flow filter system this handsome Alvis rides on silver painted wire wheels shod with 5.25 / 5.50 x 20 tyres. Part of the collection since 1997, it was bought for DM 166,000 on the basis that it was in "100% technical condition". Showing an unwarranted 46,493 miles on its odometer, it has covered just two miles since its last MOT certificate was issued on July 4th 2001. Said to have been both fast and reliable when last in service, it is offered for sale with V5C registration document, various expired MOT certificates and history file.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
