Lot details Registration No: ARE851S Chassis No: 1582316946 Mot Expiry: Jan 2006
Along with the Ford Model T, Citroen 2CV and BMC Mini, the Volkswagen Beetle is generally reckoned to be one of the elite pack of pop motoring icons. Conceived pre-war in the Stuttgart design office of Ferdinand Porsche, Hitler's air-cooled, rear-engined `People's Wagon' was resurrected by the British army as part of the Allied rebuilding of bombed out German industry.
This 1300 Beetle, a left-hand drive model with open two door bodywork by Karmann, was first supplied by Volkswagen in 1977. The entrant describes the UK registered convertible as an excellent European import, which, he claims, is a lovely and useable motor car and a great driver.
Chassis, bodywork, white paintwork and grey cloth interior are said to be in very good condition. The front seats, though non-original are by Recaro and, says the vendor, are extremely comfortable and the hood brand new. The 1.3-litre four-cylinder air-cooled motor is reportedly in excellent order and both four-speed manual transmission and electrical equipment said to be very good.
There were 61,000 kilometres displayed when entered for this sale and the current MOT test pass certificate will be valid until next January.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
