Lot details Registration No: A2 BUU Chassis No: SCC000019M1010660 Mot Expiry: Oct 2005
This 1991-built right-hand drive Vauxhall Lotus Carlton with its super torquey 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged engine is claimed to be as near mint as a fourteen year old luxurious four-door saloon can be. With four previous keepers on file, it has full service history recorded authenticated by appropriate dealer stamps. The current MOT will be valid until October, the tax disc until the end of May. The cherished registration, currently on the car, stays in place.
The specification includes ABS (anti-lock brakes), ESP (electronic stability programme), PAS (power-assisted steering), immobiliser and alarm with starter button, safety belt pre-tensioners, rear seat belts, leather seats, central locking, electric seats and windows, sunroof, premium face-off Sony sound system and rear spoiler. Although the self-levelling suspension works well, the R12 air-con will require conversion to modern gas.
Some stone chips have been sorted and the wheels properly acid-dipped and re-enamelled at a cost of £1000. The appearance of the windows have been enhanced by proper tinting, professionally done with glass removed. The front grilles have been upgraded with stainless steel mesh, though the original items come with the car. A rare Lotus Carlton owner's manual survives intact, the leather has no scuffs, and both carpets and dash good.
A Vauxhall/Lotus main dealer has carried out a major engine service recently, renewing coils, plugs and leads, at a cost of around £1500; the dealer's condition report also confirming the vehicle's super order. Thanks to much engineering input by Lotus, this luxurious high performer has 377bhp on tap and pulls less than 2000rpm in sixth gear at 100mph!
