Lot details Registration No: BLH 3B Chassis No: P232880BW Mot Expiry: July 2010
Synonymous with the 1960s, the MKII has long been Jaguar's most widely admired saloon. Utilising notably slimmer A-, B- and C-posts than its MKI forebear, the newcomer was as airy on the inside as it was elegant on the outside. Built around a monocoque bodyshell equipped with independent coil-sprung front suspension, a well-located 'live' rear axle and four-wheel disc brakes, it could be had in 2.4 litre, 3.4 litre and 3.8 litre guises. A sporting drive, the model enjoyed considerable saloon car racing success vanquishing everything from Mini Coopers to Ford Galaxies. Boasting some 220bhp and 240lbft of torque, the 3.8 litre variants were reputedly capable of circa 126mph and vivid acceleration (especially when fitted with the desirable four-speed plus overdrive manual gearbox).
According to the chassis and engine numbers quoted on its V5C Registration Document, this particular example began life as a right-hand drive 3.8 litre automatic but has since been converted to four-speed manual plus overdrive transmission and upgraded with a MKX powerplant (the latter boasting a freer breathing `straight port' cylinder head). Reputed to have had four former keepers before entering the current ownership during April 2004, `BLH 3B' has been garaged as part of a private collection. Maintained in-house, the past few years have seen the saloon benefit from attention to its steering column, brakes and carburettors. Finished in red with beige upholstery, the Jaguar presents as an older restoration. Riding on chrome wire wheels, this discretely modified MKII 3.8 litre is offered for sale with sundry paperwork and MOT certificate valid until July 2010.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
