Lot details Registration No: MPA992K Chassis No: DBS5721/R Mot Expiry: Jan 2005
Initially overlapping in production the previous DB6, announced in 1967, the Williams Towns designed DBS replacement model was wider and lower and employed a 2608mm wheelbase (as opposed to the DB6's 2582mm). The DBS body used aluminium skinned panels, though without the previous Superleggera cage method of construction. The engine was shared with the DB6, a 5-speed manual ZF was standard, though a Borg Warner sourced Type 8 auto box was an option.
This 1971 Newport Pagnell-built Aston Martin DBS was first registered in the UK in that year, although, according to the pre-1983 history available, the stylish right-hand drive and true 4-seater coupe did subsequently spend some time Stateside, for this is where the St Petersburg, Russia based vendor acquired this car in 1989. Having won a concours award at Monterey in the same year, owner and car both returned to the UK in 1990. Since then, he says, DBS 5721/R has always been well maintained and regularly serviced by marque specialists Four Ashes Garage of Pathlow near Stratford-Upon-Avon.
The current condition of both the blue painted fixed head bodywork and the blue interior are described as fair and the same goes for the 4-litre 6-cylinder motor and 3-speed automatic transmission. Although the odometer reading was 8900 miles when entered for the sale, the vendor believes that the total accumulated mileage for the car is around 55,000. We are also told that the current MOT will not need renewing until the end of next January.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
