1966 Ford Mustang

Lot details
Registration No: TRX213D
Chassis No: 6F07C728930
Mot Expiry: June 2010

For the 1966 Model Year, Ford chose to perform only minor revisions to the style of the hugely successful Mustang. Detail differences over the previous 64½ MY and 65 MY cars included a revised radiator grille, side ornamentation, wheel covers and fuel cap. The previously optional circular dashboard gauges became a standard fitment, replacing the Falcon instrument cluster. Padded sun visors were also standardised. Part of the attraction of Ford's Mustang was the quantity of options that could be ordered, and for a generation who weren't around to order these cars new and tick those boxes on the option sheet, Mustangs can still be built to the specification you want, as so many items and so much tuning gear is still available.

This 1966 hardtop coupe was imported into the UK in 1998, and is understood to have been the subject of a detailed restoration and thorough mechanical upgrade. Much work has been completed to the running gear with a slightly later but uprated 351ci V8 installed. Tuning equipment fitted includes a Holley carburettor, MSD ignition and Flowmaster exhausts. The result should be a healthy increase over the standard 1969 351 Windsor's official figure of 290hp. An alloy fuel cell has replaced the original steel tank, while the radiator is a high-efficiency aluminium type with a Kenlowe electric fan. The automatic gearbox has been refurbished and benefits from a high-stall torque-converter. Braided fuel and brake lines are utilised, and the suspension has been re-worked with adjustable height rear springs and dampers. Engine and gearbox oil coolers are also present, while auxiliary Autometer gauges assist in monitoring what's going on under the hood. Disc brakes are carried all round. The Mustang shows an odometer reading of 47,292 miles and is described by the vendor as being in "excellent" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. The chromed Cragar wheels and Cooper Cobra tyres keep the look of the car in period, and that is a great part of the attraction - classic style covering a hopped-up heart. This "very healthy" Mustang is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until June 2010 and historic class (free) road tax.
