Lot 26 - 1938 Vauxhall DX 14/6 Saloon

1938 Vauxhall DX 14/6 Saloon

Lot details
Registration No: AWF 732
Chassis No: S28540
Mot Expiry: None

One of the popular 'Light Six' models with which Vauxhall targeted the middle market during the 1930s, the DX 14/6 was introduced in late 1934. Based around a cross-braced, ladder-frame chassis equipped with cable-operated four-wheel drum brakes, it was notable for being among the first British-built cars to feature independent front suspension and an all-synchromesh manual gearbox. Powered by a 1781cc straight-six engine that boasted overhead valvegear, coil ignition and some 42bhp @ 3,500rpm, the Vauxhall was reputedly capable of 70mph. Restyled for the 1937-model year, it gained a waterfall grille and 'easy clean' wheels. Although, available with various coachbuilt bodystyles, the vast majority of DX 14/6s were sold as factory bodied saloons.

Finished in black / green with green leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as a restoration project. Reputedly supplied new to a RAF officer who was killed during World War Two, 'AWF 732' is further thought to have been locked away by his widow for the next forty plus years. Spending another decade in dry storage following its release from her estate, the past twelve months have apparently seen the Vauxhall running again thanks to the installation of a new radiator. Given the amount of time it has spent off the road, the seller believes there is a chance that the car has covered as little as 6,000 miles from new. However, this figure cannot be warranted. A real timewarp, 'AWF 732' is offered for sale with a V5 registration document that records just one previous keeper from 1938 to 2006.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
