Reliant's 1968-launched, low and roomy GTE created a fashion for the sporting estate car; the concept also being taken up by Volvo for their P1800ES, by Lancia for the Beta HPE and by Honda for their Accord Aerodeck. The Scimitar was powered by Ford's 3-litre V6 with choice of gearbox, either manual four-speed (with overdrive option from 1971) or automatic transmission from 1970. This example - a right-hand drive Series 5A - first left Reliant's Tamworth, Staffordshire works in 1973.
Current overall cosmetic condition of steel chassis, GRP bodywork in white, alloy wheels and black plastic trim are described by the vendor as being good. The Ford 2994cc six, claimed still to be the original, is reportedly in good order and consuming only one litre of oil every 600 miles, whilst three-speed auto and electrical equipment are all also good.
According to the owner, there has been much recent expenditure on brakes, carburettor and fuel pump, while the 142,286 mileage displayed when entered is believed by him to be the genuine total mileage for the Scimitar from new.
