Despite earlier BSCC success, the RS1600 rose to international prominence in 1974 when it not only won the Nurburgring 6-hours but also captured the ETCC title. Finished in Castrol colours with black upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "A1" condition with regard to its engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Stated to have begun life as a road car before being converted into a racer during 2005, 'EDP 69K' boasts an impressive specification. Sporting "lightweight fibreglass panels (bonnet, boot, doors), Lexan windows and bubble arches", the Escort's bodyshell also plays host to "a plumbed-in fire extinguisher, laminated windscreen and full rollcage with door bars". Treated to an overhaul in October 2006, its engine reportedly features "an all-alloy BDG 2-litre block, Zakspeed cylinder head, L1 cams, twin 48 Dellorto carburettors and dry-sump lubrication". Believed but not guaranteed to develop circa 260bhp, the unit feeds power to the rear wheels via "a twin sintered clutch, Quaife 5-speed close-ratio gearbox (complete with magnesium bellhousing), Gripper power diff and Quaife steel half-shafts". Utilising "Bilstein adjustable struts" up front and a single leaf-spring per side back axle, the Ford benefits from four-wheel disc brakes and "a 40litre all-alloy foam-filled fuel tank" served by "twin facet fuel pumps". Riding on "Group 4 Minilite-type wheels", 'EDP 69K' is said to be "a front running car" that has accrued "many race wins and fastest laps" during its brief competition career. Apparently eligible for "Top Hat, Groovy Baby Series, Swinging Sixties, Tin Tops and many other events", this "race ready" Escort has graced the pages of Classic Ford.
