Launched in 1992, the 3000GTO was Mitsubishi's continent-crusher, a motorized ballistic missile drawn up to do battle in its strongest form with Japan's junior supercars, the Nissan Skyline GT-R, Mazda RX7 and Toyota Supra. Packed with technical features, it was powered by a 2972cc double overhead camshaft, 24-valve V6 that in twin-turbo form produced 300bhp - and was speed-limited to 155mph. This particular example is the less complicated normally-aspirated version that still produces 222bhp, with much less of the complexity of the heavyweight four-wheel drive, four-wheel steer, twin-turbo range-topper that also electronically adjusted its suspension and extended its spoilers at speed.
This is the last year of pop-up headlights before the fixed projector light set-up was adopted, and it rides on 19in aftermarket alloy wheels that "cost a fortune", according to the vendor. The car was known as the GT in the UK; GTO nomenclature and odometer reading in kilometres signifies that it is a Japanese-market model, imported and first registered in the UK in 1998 - but 70,200km equates to just over 41,000 miles, an insignificant distance for such a mighty machine. The owner describes the bodywork as "excellent", and the rest of the car as "good", adding that it is "excellent value". Sold with a V5C and MOT until March next year, this open-roads cruiser with four-speed automatic transmission and air conditioning represents a huge amount of performance coupe for the money.
